Some of you are new to the Bidmii fam, so we thought we'd take a moment to reintroduce ourselves.
In looking back on the past 3 years and how far Bidmii has come, it occurred to us that we haven’t made a formal reintroduction in a while. There are lots of new people who have started supporting our company - whether it be as an active user on our platform, a follower liking our social posts, or even an investor in our latest crowdfunding campaign. And while we do our best to communicate our mission and vision as clearly and as loudly as we can, we know that we’re not reaching absolutely everyone. So, this is us reintroducing ourselves to those of you that are new to the Bidmii fam.
Bidmii was founded in 2020 by Jon, our CEO, and Phillip, our CTO. It was the start of the pandemic, we’re talking April 2020, and both of them were feeling the itch to take on a new project. We’ll spare you all the tremendously exciting details (hope you can sense the sarcasm), but they put their heads together and Bidmii was born.
Bidmii exists for the following reasons: to improve relationships between homeowners and contractors, to eliminate stolen deposits from homeowners, and to help boost a contractor’s business based on their skill and expertise – not their marketing dollars. We don’t claim to be perfect, and we know we have a long way to go, but what we can assure you is that our team is dedicated as heck to making a difference in the home improvement industry.
The Bidmii you know and love today isn’t exactly what it was initially meant to be. Through failures, forced pivots, and insights from our users, we’ve been able to mould and shape this platform into something that uniquely meets the needs of both our user bases. Now maybe you’re wondering, “Okay, we get it, you’re just like Homestars and Jiffy – so what makes you so special?” Well, let’s get into it, shall we?
First of all, we offer payment protection. Homeowners can rest assured that their payment is securely held, by us, until they approve the project is complete and that they’re happy with the work. Stop saying goodbye to your deposits, instead say goodbye to STOLEN deposits… (okay we know, that didn’t sound as good as we thought it would, but you get the point). Our secure payments aren’t just a good thing for homeowners, contractors benefit from this as well. Contractors complain a lot about chasing down payments, but with Bidmii, they know they get paid as long as they do a good job and get the job done…completely.
The response that usually follows this spiel is “okay but what if the contractor finishes the job and they totally botch it?” We give you your money back, plain and simple. Or we can help you find another contractor to come finish the work. If we need to mediate a situation where a homeowner and contractor disagree about the quality of the work, we’ll find some outside help from other contractors. They’ll visit the site and provide their opinion and help us figure out the best course of action. But don’t think we’re just going to abandon you with a splotchy paint job, we’ve got your back.
We’re also super special because we don’t vet our contractors.
“WHAT?! Then I’m not using you! That’s crazy! How do you know that the contractors are any good?!!!!”
^ This is a very common response when we tell homeowners we don’t vet the contractors that use our platform. But, what they don’t realize, is that it’s actually working really well for us. Firstly, homeowners leave reviews for the contractors they work with, and that’s literally the only way a contractor can earn a review on our platform. Billy Bob can’t ask his mom to leave a fake, 5-star review on Bidmii to boost his overall rating… he has to fully complete a job AND provide photos of the finished work. Secondly, this means that contractors typically steer clear of the projects they know they can’t do. If they bid on and win a job that they’re not 100% confident about, they risk earning a bad review which could ultimately taint their future on Bidmii. Does that make sense?
The last, and possibly the most surprising thing about Bidmii is that we are entirely free to use. Our platform, at its most basic level, is free for homeowners to post projects and contractors to bid on projects. For contractors to get a little more out of the platform, we offer a couple of subscription packages, but they’re not mandatory. We also offer financing options for both homeowners and contractors because we know life can be expensive. BUT, what we don’t do is take a cut of the projects.
Our team is small but mighty. Right now, we’re comprised of our CEO, CTO, a developer, a controller, and a digital marketing specialist. We’re lucky to have a little part-time attention from a wonderful UX designer, and we’re supported by an advisory board that’s made up of some of the most intelligent people in the world. As we said, we’re not perfect, but the group behind Bidmii is a force to be reckoned with. We’re HIGHLY determined to make renovation issues a thing of the past. If we haven’t proved that already, does it help to know that the humans behind Bidmii are also homeowners, each with horror reno stories of our own? We want seamless home improvement just as much as you do.
We’re a close-knit bunch, it often feels we’re more like a family than a company. Our meetings often run overtime due to recaps of the weekend’s festivities, updates about how the little ones are doing, and daydreaming about the future of Bidmii. We’re confident that there’s no better group of people that’s capable of pulling off what we aim to achieve.
So yeah, that’s a little bit about us. We’re as confident in our abilities as we are in our willingness to learn. Please reach out to us if you ever want to connect, to share your stories, or even provide us with feedback (both good and bad) using our platform. We want Bidmii to be your go-to, so tell us what we can do to make that happen.
