Jess - Contractor Spotlight

Growing up, Jess was always creative and enjoyed doing different types of work with her hands. This eventually led to her starting her own company. Her company Honeybadger Handywork specializes in aesthetic finishes that include painting, flooring, drywalling, and so much more! The company name stems from “Badger”, a nickname she got when attending Brock University. Plus, what’s not to love about a honey badger? They’re hardworking, resourceful, and tenacious!

When Jess decided to start her handywoman journey, she headed to a local Home Hardware store where she discovered Bidmii. Her favourite part about the platform is the ability to pick and choose the jobs she’s interested in and makes the most of her skills. She also likes how easy it is to connect with homeowners once you’ve been awarded the job. To encourage and inspire women to join the trades, we asked Jess to talk about her experience. She said, “I think the trades are a great option for women. Yes, there is a lot of physicality involved in this work, but there is more problem solving, attention to detail, and determination needed than anything. Women have that in spades! I didn't have many other females to look to when starting my career. My hope for the generation coming behind me is that going into the trades isn't seen as something out of the ordinary, but a profession for anyone who has an interest in it!”
